Ministry Update
02 September 2009
Only one
word can describe the June trip to Bay St. Louis -- GOD!
Mind
you, "HOT" is right there at the top, but God showed up in a big way. For
the first time since the inception of the DiRT Ministry, we were able to
partner with another church and get a group of people from another circle
of influence.
There
were five people from the Calhoun United Methodist Church, six from
Wildwood Baptist Church, and one person that was a team member’s
co-worker. What an awesome group! The projects we worked on were truly
perfect for our team, and as I always say, "God sent the right number of
people, the right mix of people, and this trip was the best yet!" It never
ceases to amaze me!
One project was a roof framing project. A house that had been sitting for
a year needed a roof. God provided a retired contractor on our team that
used to run a framing crew years ago. Bobby took four other people and turned
them into a framing crew and accomplished more than I could ever have done
given the same circumstances. Remarkable!
Scott and Brian were able to get at least two houses ready for electrical
and HVAC inspections that were critical to getting people in their homes.
Again, the right people at the right time -- Lord, you are in control!
A third team helped a local church by framing and sheetrocking a new set
of bathrooms which are urgently needed for them to minister to the
community through activities like VBS.
Early in the week, the guys that went down for the whole week were able to
install a kitchen for Lesli, whose house we plumbed during a previous trip
and who is now living in her finished home!
Everything worked as if it had been planned out perfectly from the
beginning. Of course it had ... just not by me. On top of all of the work
we did to help Charley, our
Pathfinder Mission
contact, we were able to do some work for the people we rent houses from
when we stay there. We even got to meet one owner and hang out with him
and his wife. What a blessing for us!
Our buddy Calvin cooked us up some of the best ribs I have ever eaten. We
had a lowcountry boil one night that rivaled the local restaurants. We
drank more water and Gatorade than you can imagine. It was a spectacular
trip. And if you want to hear about Paul and Todd’s wild adventure
(driving through the night and weaving all over the highway), well, you
will have to get that story in person.
The September trip is upon us, and the November trip will be here before
you know it. Please consider getting in on the blessing. There are already
people who feel led to go, but need financial support to allow it to
happen. We still have openings in both trips. You don’t have to know
ANYTHING. Just be willing to go. We will teach you. You will be blessed.
You will have a blast. You will not forget it. Celebrate the five year
anniversary of Katrina by helping us on a trip this year!
